Co-ed rooms at MSU
Proposal to let those who want it to have an opposite sex room mate, not just suite mates.
Will there be enough women for all the men who opt for this?

to be honest from the guy side this seems like one of those things that sounds way more awesome than it would actually be.

Isn't co-ed already an option for gay students who don't feel comfortable getting paired with a straight roommate?

Lived on 1-west wilson last year(co-ed floor) and all suite mates were same gender...I highly doubt they'd do guy/girl suitemate combos considering the drama/crap that could arise..especially when the university will be responsible when it comes to anything "sexual" related...

Plus, anyone who has actually shared a bathroom with a woman knows that it sucks.

No. If that was an argument, people could indicate on their housing application that they would be uncomfortable with a gay roommate. Bad precedent.
That being said, I think co-ed areas could work, to an extent. Houses can have girls and guys living there, share bathrooms and showers. Why can't suite-style dorms have that?

Because the university is to an extent responsible for what happens in oncampus co-ed suites, but not in offcampus co-ed houses

That works because the University is not liable for incidents that may occur. Imagine the fallout if a female is sexually harassed or assaulted by a roommate or suite-mate--it would all come back to MSU's decision to put them in this position. They have to limit the situations for them to be held liable for such occurrences.
Horny teenagers are capable of some creepy things that I'm sure would happen more frequently than they already do (sexual harassment/assault, videotaping, etc) if something like this was put into place.

Yeah man, we would all get hot roommates who we could have sex with all the time, they would even do our homework too!

I'm not talking about people going in blind to co-ed rooms. Is a housing company liable if two roommates of opposite sex are involved in an incident? I'm assuming all parties involved will know each other before moving in together, just as in an apartment or house. The option still exists for anyone to say no and get placed blind into a suite/room of the same sex.
Those who graduate from high school and move on to community colleges either stay with their parents, or maybe they get an apartment or rent a house at 18 years of age. Our laws and society and parents apparently feel that someone that age is smart enough to judge who they live with. If co-ed dorm suites are done strictly by choice, why is that any different?

There is no way this would ever happen...or should happen.
Plus, how disappointed would you be when you showed up to your dorm your first day and your roommate was some random annoying chick who wasn't even hot?

So true. Living with chicks will drive you almost as insane as they already are.

I think the only thing in place for this is for transgender students, but I don't know all the details.

I'm pretty sure other universities have a co-ed program in place for gay and transgender students already. Frankly, I just naturally assumed a similar program was already in place here at MSU.
