UM bball rumor
Supposedly UM got a silent verbal from K'len Morris yesterday. He is a 6'5 guard from Grand Blanc. He is not ranked (that I have heard). He'll be on UM campus sometime in the first week of August after which a public announcement will be made. He had two offers- from UM and Cleveland St. He also "heard" from Florida and was being recruited by Missouri and Valpo. If true, congrats to UM.

I can't confirm the rumor, but I did read recently that UofM was very close to getting a committment from him, so it's not surprising at all.
He wasn't ranked by Rivals, but he did well at one of the adidas camps, and one of the Rivals guys said that he will be in the next round of rankings. He's certainly not a superstar, but he should be a solid player that can penetrate, rebound well for his size, and run on the fast break extremely well.

Even a "poor man's" Gavin.
Valpo? Cleveland State?
Maybe he's more like Godfriedson.

So did Ryan Wright instantly become a much more talented player when you guys and Wisconsin started recruiting him?

I'd agree with that. Homer Drew is an awesome coach, and has made the Valpo program very solid, even though they're only a "mid-major". As someone with 2 graduate degrees from the University of Detroit (...ok, ok...Mercy... ), I'd take Homer over that sack of s$#@ Perry Watson any day.

Ryan Wright is another case of Izzo identifying talent before others. Recruiting guys know that and once MSU is interested in a kid, his rankings go up. Happens all the time. But his rankings also go up because he is better than people originally thought.
It's possible Amaker identified a talent before everybody with D Sims. We'll see how he progresses.

Um, Amaker picked up on Wright way before Izzo did. That could definitely work in Michigan's advantage.

Izzo was in on him early as well. UM did offer before MSU, and while some of that is due to Amaker identifying talent, it's also because State can afford to take more time to evaluate players. I believe Wright is quoted as saying MSU is at, or 'probably' at, the top of his list. Could end up being an interesting recruiting battle if both schools stay high on him.

Michigan and Michigan State are definitely neck and neck for him. I think he's a kid that genuinely cares about the type of education he gets. It sounded like his decision might be based on which type of campus he liked better, rather than the basketball program, per se.

You mean you can't confirm a silent verbal?
Must be that the player is too ashamed to admit he is picking um.

Wow, the ignorance in this thread is astounding.
1) Morris is a 2006 recruit- in other words, this is an extremely early commitment, and him being an unknown is hardly an indication of his talent level.
2) You guys have awfully short memories. Gee, who had offered Gray and Drew Cousey Pistol Pete Neitzel when they committed to MSU? If my memory serves me correct, I don't think any major program had.And guess what- they also commited extremely early.
3) Morris has been blowing up- he was ranked by one recruiting service the #4 underclassmen at the Adidas camp, and he has been excelling all Spring. No, he wasn't ranked in the 2 year early 1st 2006 class rankings- but I guarantee you he will in the next ones. Anyone with a Rivals subscription can read on what RivalsHoops has been saying about him- and its pretty good.
I'm really starting to think MSU basketball fans have firmly grabbed the mantle of arrogance from Michigan football fans...

I have to admit that I enjoy reading this type of news. However, much of what we used to say about Michigan was found in this thread. There was a time when I was in school that we would take a verbal from a kid like this and hope that he could pan out into something. Meanwhile um was getting the fab five, or the judge or whatever. Yes there were rumours back then that these players were being made promisses etc. However, that sounded like sour grapes at the time. In no way shape or form does Izzo need to cheat. That isn't the point. It is interesting to see it from both sides. It really does go in cycles. Here's hoping that it goes that way in football as well. However, I wouldn't trade another 10-20 year dynasty in hoops for anything -except maybe a 15 year dynasty in football at the expense of the uglies who wear the michigan clothing and think you are somehow gonig to get into the dirt with them about sports because you actually attended MSU.

Amaker might as well cut his losses and move on to a different player then. Better that than to waste his time an energy driving down a dead end street. Michigan's campus can't hold MSU's jockstrap.

If your vision of a campus is a lot of trees and bus rides to everywhere, then I see your point...but Ann Arbor as a hip city and as a college town blows E.L out of the water.
