Eastern Michigan was still hanging around midway through the third quarter, down 21-7 but marching 96 yards toward a potential touchdown. After MSU's Otis Wiley saved a touchdown with a tackle on a screen pass, EMU lined up for a field goal from the MSU 4. It was a fake, and holder Ryan Downard ran up the middle. MSU's Eric Gordon and Adam Decker dragged him down at the 1, and the Eagles never threatened again.
