Michigan State's hockey team finished October with a 6-2 record and scored 29 goals -- a significant start for a team that finished 10-23-5 and scored 62 goals last season. The Spartans currently are tied for first place with Miami (Ohio) and host Nebraska-Omaha today and Friday at Munn Arena. Corey Tropp, suspended last season for slashing U-M's Steve Kampfer, leads the team with seven goals and 13 points. The Spartans have a challenging schedule this month with home-and-home games against Michigan and Notre Dame, and then hosting Wisconsin and Minnesota. MSU coach Rick Comley spoke to Free Press sports writer George Sipple about his team's start.
