I support the rights of the entire population to be as unhappy as the rest of the population. They wanted it, they got it. Now lawyers can get more business with same sex divorces.

Kind of funny how this happened during an election year AGAIN.

Just sayin', look what resulted the last time this happened. Just sayin'.

While I'm not exactly a "church going type" I can relate to how you feel about this one. Sorta the same warm, fuzzy feeling I get by watching iceburgs slide into the ocean to melt (due to GCC). Really pisses the greenies off...

I can only hope voters realize the difference between a guppy and a 300 pound shark.

Good for California

This should make conservatives happy. As we married men know, marriage = less sex. So gay marriage = less gay sex.

Pretty much every state that could pass a gay marriage ban has and the Feds passed DOMA a long time ago. Do you really think the gay marriage issue still has traction?

amusing that the Court which overturned the ban (on grounds I've often argued, the interracial argument), is Republican dominated.

Most amusing is the fact that the anti-gay marriage folks going crazy over this ruling don't have legit arguments other than "tradition" and "sanctity of marriage" to support their discriminatory position.

Nation & World | Gay marriage opponents vow to fight Calif. ruling | Seattle Times Newspaper
The Republican-dominated court's decision, which cited a 1948 California Supreme Court decision that overturned a ban on interracial marriages, swept away decades of tradition and said there was no legally justifiable reason why the state should withhold the institution of marriage because of a couple's sexual orientation.

The 4-3 opinion written by Chief Justice Ronald George said domestic partnerships that provide many of the rights and benefits of matrimony are not enough.

"In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," George wrote for the majority in ringing language that delighted gay rights activists.

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has twice vetoed legislation that would have granted marriage to same-sex couples, said in a statement he respected the court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

in a related story, Larry Craig and Ted Hagard have purchased a lovely one bedroom bungalow in an upscale neighborhood in the bay area.

The only issue I have is that 4 judges have ignored something that the majority of people in California voted against. The opinion of 4 people is more important than the opinion of the majority of people living in California. This sets a scary precedence for future rulings. What if 4 judges on the California supreme court decide they don't like big cars, talk radio, and religion?

big cars, talk radio, and religion aren't unconstitutional, so you don't have to worry. If the majority of Americans supported slavery, that wouldn't mean the courts can't overturn it. In fact, it's their obligation to do so.

I think its absurd that 4 judges can overturn a 70% majority in the State that has a differing opinion.

Hopefully this will get overturned in November with an upcoming ballot initiative.

And I think it's absurd that voters can write hate and discrimination into the constitution

Hate? When did anybody say that they hate gays/ lesbians? I haven't read the California referendum, but I doubt the words " we hate gay people" were included. Stop equating a disagreement over an issue to hate!!

Except you're forgetting one thing. The California legislature voted in favor of gay marriage twice in the last 3 years. It isn't just 4 judges that were in favor in this.

If voters wrote into the constitution that you can't marry the person you love just because you're different, I'd call it pretty hateful. Discrimination is hate.

If that is true, and i dont doubt you, its sad that the legislature doesnt represent the people's voices who elected it.

I would say 70% is an overwelming majority

Personally, i have no problems with gays, to each his own. but i draw the line at marriage, to me thats between a man and a wife.

Goes both ways, it's too bad the Executive Branch doesn't do the same thing regarding Iraq.

And if you don't like gay marriage my only suggestion would be to not have one
