The terms of the impending deal, details of which have been leaked to The Independent, are likely to have an explosive political effect in Iraq. Iraqi officials fear that the accord, under which US troops would occupy permanent bases, conduct military operations, arrest Iraqis and enjoy immunity from Iraqi law, will destabilise Iraq’s position in the Middle East and lay the basis for unending conflict in their country.
The fact that you guys believe this crap makes me think you have crossed over from being delusional to just plain insane.
I have no doubt the US wants to have a base or two there. But I do doubt that "The essence of this agreement is to turn the Iraqis into slaves of the Americans.”

Here is some reasonable commentary on the actual situation from someone who has been in Baghdad his entire life...not a political plant for an all-too-willing media ready to hang Bush over everything.

You just don`t want to understand, do you, lars. Immunity has been the norm. The US wants to continue and expand it.
lars, don`t be such a coward. Actually understanding things is not that scary. Give it a try sometime.

"The government sent delegations to Germany, Japan, and South Korea to listen to what they, not the mullahs, have to say about it."
Why would they go talk to our other subservient stooges? We've been "occupying" Japan and Germany for over 60 years now and S.Korea for over 50, right?

Because of post #2 where lars makes it clear he believes the idea of immunity for US troops and their operatives is some sort of pie in the sky notion.
As far as oscar goes, he doesn`t. That guy is way too far gone for truth or reality to penetrate his fog.

Yes, all those you mentioned had major security issues and unstable governments too.
Your life in the present must be great because you have a penchant to ignore historical differences.
