Do you know your credit score?
I can honestly say I do not know what my credit score is, and I sleep perfectly well at night. All of this hype and hysteria over credit scores is laughable. Con men like the ones who run the rating websites imply that debt is free with the right credit score. It's not. Just stay out of debt and you won't have to worry about it...

If you're making payments on time, having the house should improve your score

My wife and I are getting ready to close on a house. While getting okayed for a mortgage through 5/3 bank, they did a credit check. My score was a respectable 740.

I don't know my score...last time someone checked...my score was not that high...the reason...I have no debt...I pay everything off on time....credit card companies never get any interest off me....cars paid off...house almost paid off...I don't borrow...
Therefore, I must be a risk...

Take out 2 credit cards with zero yearly fees, keep them open and never use them. That will help you score go up

serious question - why would you want to know?? Unless you were wanting to purchase something and needed a good credit rating to do so...

Because it tends to take a while to sort out mistakes or unknown screwups on your part.
For example, I had an internship in Seattle when I was a junior in college. I was 21. I had rented an apartment, and it slipped my mind to pay the final utility bill of something like $40. After I left, the apartment didn't have my forwarding information, so the utility company never bothered contacting me and just sent my $40 bill to collections after a long wait. About a year or so after this happened, I did a credit check and found an outstanding collection on my name which was ****ing up my credit. I paid it, but those things take FOREVER to go away. I bought a house when I was 26 and ended up paying thousands in extra interest because $40 unpaid utility bill took like 100 points off my credit score.

I can't remember the exact number but it's in the top 98 percentile.
I owe no one anything. Paid off a mortgage and a few car loans. Have a couple credit cards and a line of credit with zero balances.
Reasons why it's good to know your score:
1) Identity theft and credit bureau screw ups can lead to a bad score, it's good to stay on top of it
2) the satisfaction of knowing that you are good with money
