Mexico is near economic collapse. Their most valuable export, oil, is in serious decline. Exports are down big. This is the money the government uses to keep the peace. Now that money is rapidly declining.

Mexico's oil production fell 6.4 percent in the first two months of the year compared to the same period in 2007, while exports fell by more than twice that much, the state-owned oil company reported Monday.

It would be easier and cheaper for them to smuggle full-auto weapons from the south than semi-auto weapons from the north.

Most of the weapons needed to wage war are unavailable at Bubba's Gun Shop. Mortars, artillery, tracked vehicles, and heavy machineguns aren't stuff that gets bought from the United States. (At least not without .gov approval).

I wouldn't be suprised if most of the cartel's weapons came from Mexican police arsenals and military bases. Bringing an AR-15 to a gunfight against cops is suicidally stupid. I've built several AR-15 rifles and am intimately aquainted with their capabilities and would MUCH prefer something with wheels and a lanyard in a gunfight.

It's too bad they nationalized the oil industry in Mexico in 1938 are made it illegal to partner with private companies to gain the technology needed to explore the deep waters.

Because if they hadn't already done that, they could learn from the Democrat Party here in the US and call for nationalizing the oil industry.
