More statistics: Gas has fallen to $111/bbl, or 24% off the highest price. According to this article, today's $3.26 price/bbl drop resulted in a whopping $0.01 decrease in a gallon of gas. At this rate, to get below $3.00 we will need to have a barrel of oil cost around NEGATIVE $120/bbl to have gas go below $3.00/gallon.
Seriously, gas peaked at $4.114 on July 17 when oil was $147/bbl.
Oil is now $111, or 24% off the high price, and a gallon is still $3.771. That's only a 9% reduction in price.

Pretty simple actually.

FYI, the oil companies don't set the price of gas. It's priced as a commodity (though there are other influences like how much OPEC produces, refining capabilities, etc). The oil company is similar to an Iowa farmer and the influence he can exert on the price of the corn he grows.

I wish it were that easy. The QD out on W. Saginaw was at $3.66 two weeks ago. Oil has fallen substantially since then, but gas has shot up $.33 a gallon........

Paid $3.68 three days ago, and that was after oil had been on a constant decrease over the last few weeks. The next day it went up to $3.95. What was the reason? Oil is still dropping...it didn't spike up $10-20.

Gas in GR and KZ all went to $3.96. Seeing some dropping to $3.89-$3.87 but as already stated when oil was on the way up every hiccup, rumor and reported potential disruption was follwed by a $10/bbl jum and a jump at the pump within 24 hours, sometimes 8-12 hours.
Now we are told to be patient. Its all a game and the 5 Oil Bullies are getting while the gettings good.
