He played that card in panic yesterday - it didn't seem to damped the story.
Plus, that story has been out since Hellary was using it in the debates.

The terrorist card has not been played yet.
Rezko is not Bill Ayers.

The assets of himself and his wife are certainly managed under a holding company. 7 is the number used by the Obama campaign, but the true number has been reported as being anywhere between 5 and 12.
McCain's staff knew this issue would be raised at some point and his staff had advised him to refer that question to his staff so that the media could be provided with the proper breakdown.
Why should McCain worry about his financial holdings anyway? I think he should focus on the issues that he will need to address as President of the United States.

Try explaining all that to the american people. I think McCain should give a major speech on "wealth" similar to Obama's speech on race.

Wealth has never prevented someone from becoming President

You are extremely naive if you believe there's not some contact between 527s and campaigns. 527's do the sleezy work the campaigns won't.

And you expect us to believe that the Bush2 folks now running the McCain campaign haven't been in contact with the 527's.
Grow up PR, not all of us are willing to buy into the Dick DeVos style wide eyed innocence act when it comes to the GOP, 527's and presidential elections.

As someone who works on campaigns, you're smarter than this. Political campaigns can't legally "coordinate". However, it's not a coincidence that 527 ads are usually very similar to campaign talking points.

No, it wasn't. After a long, drawn out response to the question of what he consideres rich, McCain tried to summary his position with a direct answer: $5MM. It was not intended as a joke.

It sure isn't good when you have a 72 year old man who doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on a number of things.
No one cares about the finer points of who owns what houses...all that matters to me is that he clearly owns several and i own one. I don't really care...but what about the people that are struggling with that one house? or the people that are renting?
The other issue is that McCain has admitted that he doesn't really have a knowledge base in economics...and that's the biggest issue right now...and while the Bush administration is talking its way out of Iraq (which might make that a non-issue) it's almost McCain's bread and butter.

“So I think if you’re just talking about income, how about $5 million. But seriously, I don’t think you can — I don’t think, seriously that — the point is that I’m trying to make here seriously — and I’m sure that comment will be distorted, but the point is — the point is — the point is that we want to keep people’s taxes low and increase revenues. Pull the Youtube (I'm lazy) - he, the Megachurch guy and the audience all start laughing after McCain says $5 mil. Look, was it dumb? Yes, but the houses thing has the potential for more traction if you ask me.

if you ask me, neither paints a very good picture of McCain.
i wonder why they've cut off the previously unlimited access of the press to the candidate.

The McCain campaign will take that trade in a heart beat.
The house story is embarrassing and uncomfortable for McCain, but is unlikely to drastically change anyone's idea of who they think John McCain is.
The Chicago Annenberg Challenge has the potential to reveal a much stronger relationship and link between Obama and Bill Ayers than Obama has acknowledged.
That story has the potential to dramatically re-define the image of Obama.
