Newspaper story Behind Obama's Bet on Biden.

Behind Obama's Bet on Biden - TIME

But in the end, Obama picked him for the simplest of reasons: The six-term Senator from Delaware is strongest in areas where the freshman from Illinois is weakest. Biden's tenure in the Senate, his foreign policy expertise, his religion, and his suburban middle-class background, all fill gaps in Obama's own presidential profile.

Most of all, where Obama is reserved and cautious in a political knife-fight, Biden comes out swinging. Tapping Biden is a signal that the Obama campaign is ready for a battle — and to take the risks that come with it.

Those are all reasons you don't pick Biden.

Why would your #2 be more experienced than you? And be more aggressive?

I think the VP candidate does little for the campaign, but Biden has a knack of sticking his foot in it and IMHO can only hurt Obama.

I think it was a poor choice. Biden is too much of a big mouth.

Binden has so much baggage, and is everything Obama was against. Hope and change right?

Consider me shocked that you disagree with Obama's VP pick. He could have picked Jesus Christ himself for VP and you would be like "Yeah but that Jesus guy doesn't wear shoes and has disgusting feet! WHAT DISEASES IS HE CARRYING?"

Mickey Kaus does a little sleuthing and discovers that Joe Biden’s collapse in the 1988 presidential election cycle didn’t just come from his plagiarism of Neil Kinnock. In a 1987 New York Times article, E.J. Dionne reported on a series of blunders by the Delaware Senator that knocked him out of contention. This list includes plagiarism, misrepresentation of his educational achievements, and telling a voter about his big, big brain:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tape, which was made available by C-SPAN in response to a reporter’s request, showed a testy exchange in response to a question about his law school record from a man identified only as ”Frank.” Mr. Biden looked at his questioner and said: ”I think I have a much higher I.Q. than you do.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He then went on to say that he ”went to law school on a full academic scholarship - the only one in my class to have a full academic scholarship,” Mr. Biden said.
http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/B12488...-CBFFF93D72C4/

Where were you in 1988, ignot? Biden is a CLOWN.

PS, I'm trying to find the video of him going at the reporter that called him out for actually being 76 out of 85 students in his class. It's quite hilaroius, Biden looks like an idiot.

Biden is the "high risk" bet for sure, all it takes is for him to say something exceedingly stupid and Obama's very polished campaign will be a train wreck.

Still, it's going to make everything a lot more entertaining - I will be glued to everything the guy says.

I like him in that video. The IQ comment was not the greatest but dude has energy and that's cool. Oddly enough he looks a heck of a lot better now with the white hair+toupee.

Well, that's good that he has his resume listed.

If you're looking for a presidental candidate who isn't egotistical, you aren't going to find one. The person things that he/she is more qualified than anyone else to be the most powerful person in the world. So, if Biden acts like an ******* in front of the cameras, I'm sure every other candidate dating back to John Adams was an ******* behind closed doors.

Biden = Kennedy, long histories of doing stupid things.

It's too bad everyone at the time didn't think like you, because Biden dropped out because of this....oh yeah, and his plagiarism.

Think of Obama and his calculated responses teamed up with a guy that just says whatever comes to his mind. Nice liability for Obama.

What also makes no sense is that the dems are locked up on the northeast part of the country. Why not connect with the south? Kansas? Texas?

It seems like a pretty stupid pick overall.

There's a difference between being egotistical and delusional. And being a hot head on top of that doesn't help.

I'm sure Obama thinks he's a smart guy, but he doesn't break down when someone calls him out like a child.

The ability to speak off the cuff goes both ways. I totally forgot that Biden was the first to use "noun,verb,9/11".

By aggressive, I mean media-wise. Cheney is the man in the backroom. He hardly talked to the press. Bush was never overshadowed by Cheney in the media. I think a lot of ppl saw Cheney almost as a cabinet member, where Biden will be more out front.

Also, Bush was never called to the mat for being inexperienced like Obama is. So it makes a bigger deal now.

I agree with LA, Obama should have picked a young outsider so that the "we're going in and making change" type thing would continue his momentum. Now Obama looks like an institutionalized politician, with the same-o same-o.

I can get behind most of that, the first post just seemed ripe for a potshot.

I think I'm quickly grasping why Congressmen have historically done poorly in the race for the White House. I can't remember the last time Congressional approval was over 50%, I imagine the same is true in each state legislature. That probably makes it real easy for a Governor to figure out their main plan:

"You hate Congress? I vetoed a bunch of nonsense that my state legislature tried to make you pay for. I'll do the same thing at the national level."

Provided you provide an upturn for your state when you're the Governor, or benefit from simply being in the right place at the right time, I think you're gonna do fairly well.

Hope and change. Are you serious? The only thing gullible types like you will be left with after Barry & Joe is . Barry sure reformed Illinois and Chicago, right?

Brilliant. Just the kind of "change" America needs. Remember, the Dummy drives.

I like the Biden pick. Biden can be a mean SOB and that will definitely help when you consider the tone that this campaign is taking.

His foreign policy experience is just about as good as it gets on either side of the aisle
