Am I wrong in thinking you're going to see the same show a week from now?

Especially when he talks about the real, practical solutions that he's proposed in his 26 years in DC.

None whatsoever. I'm well on my way to believing it no longer matters who occupies the White House.

I was wondering if I got that one right. For that matter, did he say "get us off of M.E. oil" or just end dependence on it? I mean, yes, right now, we're dependent on it. But what about not being crack-addict-dependent on it but still use some of it?
It will be interesting to overanalyze the GOP convention now, I'm fairly OD'ed on the DNC. This taking turns thing is boring.

That was almost 40 years ago. I think he has been paid back with respect and votes enough over the years to more than pay him back for his service. What he endured doesn't give him the right to the Presidency or anyones vote.
You are an old school thinker, that stuff doesn't matter anymore to a voter with a brain.

It really doesn't matter what any of you say, there's enough people in this country that won't vote for him because he's black, and that's all that matters

He said end dependence. Also just heard that the McCain camp has already released a point-by-point rebuttal. How predictable. Only took 5 minutes.

Well, they just lost one night's theme with part, definitely the most dynamite part of the speech - a true knock out blow to the "with us or against us" GOP.
The times are too serious, the stakes are too high for this same partisan playbook. So let us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country, and so do you, and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America - they have served the United States of America.
So I've got news for you, John McCain. We all put our country first.

Never has. The President is a figurehead who can't enact a single law, the biggest impact the President has on the shape of this nation on his own is the Supreme Court, and that still has to get by the House and Senate.

Reagan had a huge impact on the world stage and it made a difference.

Oh I think it certainly can matter. But in an odd sense it can feel like his campaign is guilt-tripping people into voting for him via that like it has been argued by some that Obama's campaign is guilt-tripping people via race.
I think the sticking point comes in when someone uses McCain's time as a POW to demonstrate his character but simultaneously argues that his affair should be discounted. Yes, the affair happened a long time ago, and people can change. By the same token, he was a POW an even longer time ago. I'm missing the distinction where a person can say "forget the faults but remember the praises" and to me at least sounds hollow.

Teachers make plenty of money, I work with them daily. They enjoy outstanding benefits and retirement programs to boot. They are more about self-entitlement that any UAW union you could ever run across.
I have no sympathy for a teacher making $90K a year with a 100% healthcare plan they pay nothing towards, retiree healthcare and an pension.

What an amazing speech! My emotions were SO hyped. I even teared up. That was a better speech than I ever heard Clinton perform.
I wonder who directed the coverage from the floor. Whoever it was....That was an oscar winning....ok really emmy winning...performance!
This episode was better at hyping my emotions than all the Extreme Home Makeovers I ever saw!
And then I remembered the line in my signature...

Like I don't know anything about the economy, or the economy is doing well?

teachers making $90K? Whatever.
My sister made under $30K in MI. My father-in-law, as school board president, was told to give early retirement to any teacher making over $55K so they could hire a bunch of new college grads for under $30K. That's reality as the GOP continues to gut education funding. Most college professors don't make $90K.
