All I can say is read other threads here, they do make what I say they do, I know what I am posting here is true from experience.
I remmeber walking out of one of those meetings years ago, wishing I had become a teacher when I first started out in my profession.
Don't even get me started on the police, fire, etc. and the DROP program. Do you know most of your local big city fireman work 2 days a week, and hold other full time jobs, and they are entitled to healthcare from both employers, as well as retiree healthcare and pension benefits from the city they are employed by? I had one HR Director from a large city in the Detorit area actually tell me I could hire on there and still keep my job I have now. no conflicts. probably half the fire department there was doing the same thing.
Whether its Lansing, Grand Rapids, Flint, Detroit, etc., you have no idea how good municipal goverment employees and school teachers have it, I do, and I have to bite my tongue every time I meet with them.
What irks me is cops get paid less than teachers whether starting out or with years on the job. Something is wrong with that picture.

Fair enough Mitch, and I'm sorry if I'm coming off as an attack dog. On this board, though, you gotta do it if you want to try and get past the usual pissing and moaning to see who can back stuff up. Especially when numbers are always relative. I mean, who cares if someone's making $65k if the average salary is over a hundred grand? By the same token, who cares if someone's making $30k if the average salary is less than half that? For my own part, I can only speak to the people I know, and they're either underpaid compared to the community they're in or can't find a job they can live on despite stellar resumes. One-sided? Yeah, probably, but how else do you get the full picture without discourse and debate?

Maybe the question should be why Mitch is in such a crappy business position that he can't afford or his bosses won't pay for good wages and benefits.
It has turned from why not us to everyone should be at the bottom

Your wrong on that account. It still matters to many, whatever the age, what he went through in Vietnam. Read some of the books about the Hanoi Hilton and then make that comment. His point is that under no circumstances did he abandon his country and nor put himself before his country. Unfortunately today, our children don't learn enough about what occurred during WWII as well as wars our courageous soldiers fought in to defend our country. Take the time and talk with a Vet and you'll understand what they fought for truly means.[/quote]
My Dad served in WWII, so I appreciate what war means. In addiiton to my Dad, my five uncles also served in WWII, his brothers. I get what the sacrifice is. None of them went on to public office, they instead took jobs that helped build this country, and never used their military experience to secure a job in politics as a career for 30+ years.
My Dad was chief engineer on the M1A1 Abrams tank made by General Dynamics, the tank you have seen for 20+ years. His military experience did nothing for him as he was always surpassed for promotion by young college kids with degrees, yet GD and the Govt. entrusted him to be final signoff on blueprints when it came to making the tank. I still hear from people he worked with when they see his signature, he passed away in 1987. 21 years later, he is still making an impact by simply signing his name, that is pretty cool. They pull out documents all the time he was the final approver of to this day. Its cool 21 years after he passed away, he still has an impact on the World.
