I loved obama's speech, I loved obama, i will be voting for him and I will probably tell my friends to also.
Interesting...Fireworks and a free event for people to go to and say they were on tv is enough to get your vote? May i suggest you watch the debates and then decide

Im not thrilled about Obama, but watching McCain during the primaries was enough for me to vote Obama and tell all my friends to do the same.

That is exactly what is wrong with voters in this country.....One guy worked his way through the primaries and had an easy go off it, the other guy had to battle some bitter bitch to the end therefore he is going to be a better president. Way to base your decision on substance

To quote a poster here who quoted George Will who quoted someone else, "seeing is believing". I've seen enough of Republicans for now.
Just what is Obama's record on the economy, and just about any other aspect of good governance?
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the unemployment rate in Chicago stood at an average of 7.5% in 2004 as The One campaigned from his 13th IL state senate district for a US senate seat (NB: in comparison 1992 recession-year unemployment averaged only 6.7% nationally earning GHW Bush no end of criticism from Dems that year). A 7.5% unemployment figure in Obama's hometown compares unfavorably with national unemployment numbers of 5.5% at the time when both branches of Congress were held by the GOP. Even more significantly, when The One entered office Chicago only had a 6.4% unemployment rate in 1997.Today unemployment in the state of IL stands at 6.8% (June), again worse than the national average (5.7%); this is significant because the state of IL is entirely controlled by Dems. Arizona reports a June unemployment of 4.8% (better than national figures). Use this data and don't be afraid to paint with too broad a brush here: these figures clearly indicate The One and his fellow partisans have NO CREDIBILITY on issues of the nation's economy, after all he represented his Chicago district for 8 years (1997-2004) in a city entirely controlled by Dems where great disparities of wealth exist (a shrunken middle-class is the hallmark of modern US cities, nearly all run by Dems); Chicago has been run by Democrats for 77 years (William Hale Thompson was the last GOP mayor of Chicago 1927-1931). So why should there exist such a manifest disparity between economic conditions in Obama's first constituency as an elected official, entirely run by Dems for decades, and the rest of the nation at large run at the time by the GOP?
Im talking about McCain's comlete lack of forethought and goodsense. The guy is weak on every issue...Right now they say the economy is the #1 issue for most people and I watched McCain fumble through the debates trying to answer a question from Ron Paul...he looked worse than Ms. South Carolina.

Just watch the debates.....1 candidate will be clearly better than the other. I don't know which one, but one of them has to be better than the other one...right

So in your opinion, how should I base my vote? Are you saying that I should just vote for "my party"? Im not really following you here....

What I am saying is that it appears you have already made your decision when there is plenty of stuff left to go....Others have said "that convention was sweet, now it proves Obama is my guy." Great, choose your candidate on fireworks and other peoples speeches rather than how he plans to solve things in the future.

I think Obama laid out his plans to solve things in his speech and in the process took out the reasons to vote for McCain.

That's assuming quite a lot in this era of politics.
I think people make up their minds on issues generally in this era. Do you like the Iraq War? Abortion? The economy? Gas prices? Gay rights? etc. You vote accordingly. I think that a lot of the speeches or debates are matters of performance.
I do think Obama gives a good speech. I do not think that McCain does. Debates.....We'll see......

I agree with you about making your decision solely upon watching the debates, but this game has been going on for a long time now and I am quite sure that McCain is not the man I want running this country. I dont see him re-inventing himself in the next few months.

If you think McCain is going to win votes during the debates you're going to be in for a rude awakening.

He did what everyone does in a speech: say what the people in attendance wanted to hear. At the same time no actual plans to make those promises were rendered. The same will happen with McCain: he will have a speech about being American and what he wants to do with no real plans to make them happen. Same old convention politics.
I like the debates more because the candidates actually have to expound on how they plan do make things happen. We have seen time and time again teh debates cost candidates the job (Kerry couldn't debate his way out of a bag...and he was going against Bush)
