Did Gov. Granholm run 5 miles in 35 minutes?

Thousands make annual holiday trek across the Mac - NewsFlash - mlive.com

MACKINAW CITY, Mich. (AP) — Shattering her own record time, Gov. Jennifer Granholm dashed across the Mackinac Bridge on a sultry Labor Day, then set her sights on a bigger race: the election campaign.

Renewing a 51-year-old Michigan tradition on the final holiday of summer, Granholm led thousands who jogged, walked or wheeled their way across the 5-mile-long span linking the state's lower and upper peninsulas.

She and husband, Dan Mulhern, joined by a group of runners chosen by lottery, set the pace as a bright orange sun was peeking over the eastern horizon. Granholm crossed the finish line in 35 minutes, 27 seconds — her best time yet.

Too bad that she's better at running the bridge than she is at running the state.

We'll see, if she throws Kwame into the Straits of Mackinac this week, that whole perception could change.

Wow. That's good by anyone's standards, but for someone almost 50 that's damned impressive.

You wanna talk about people getting a bailout? Rodriguez is set up better'n AIG.

My guess is that she was either trying to run home to Canada or that Michigan voters finally got a clue and a mob was chasing her with rope and pitch forks.

The bridge isn't exactly flat, quite a climb to the top

I ran the Labor Day Bridge Run the last two years - didn't apply for it this year. It's a lottery and you have to run a "qualifier" within the last year. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's not the total 5-mile span of the bridge. I ran it my first year in 37 minutes 12 seconds and ran it last year in 38min 41sec. There's no way in hell i ran it in under 8 minute miles. Last year i was running about 8:35 miles prior to the run.

it is an awesome run though and if you enjoy running, you should apply for it - not sure what the link is.

Her husband, Dan Mulhern, crossed the finish line with her, while 11-year-old son Jack clocked an impressive 42 minutes.

It is NOT 5 miles across the bridge....I don't care what the damn tourist brochures say.

I set my trip odometer while driving across it once. And from the time the bridge crosses from land to water to where it crosses back over land it was something like 3.8 miles.

I've heard them say 5 miles "with approaches" whatever that means. But the distance she actually ran was probably 4 miles tops.

Just more Wells fodder. You guys do realize that if she was born in America, she'd probably be the Dem nominee right now.

gmap-pedometer.com has the distance from shore line to shore line at just over four miles. If that's the case, that makes a lot more sense at a little better than a nine minute mile. Not phenominal, but still a darn sight better than a lot of people. I'm kind of ashamed to say it'd be a dead heat between her and me.

Thank God for the Constitution. The other 49 don't need done to us what she's done to Michigan.

Actually, anyone who picks a side (not for their own values, but to ape those of what their politician says -- ie: blind faith in Obama, Bush, McCain, etc.) is a ****ing imbecile.

I don't know what measurement they're using. But if they're talking how far it actually spans the water...then they're full of crap. I've trip odometered it twice and it came up just short of 4 miles both times.

I've heard "including approaches" or "between anchorages" to account for the 5 mile measurement....but I have no idea where those begin and end.

At any rate the part you do cross on Labor Day is pretty much the part over the water only with maybe a bit extra at each end. There is no way she did 5 miles.
