Do you believe that the Bible is the literal word of God?
I think this will be helpful for future threads. This way, before i respond to a thread, i can check the list and write my response accordingly.
TIA.
(mods, please make this a sticky, i think it'll be helpful to everyone)

No, but I believe God is the search function.

I'll pass on the sticky....thanks.
I'll also pass on tBible being the literal word of God. However, my in-laws do believe that: My In-Laws Have Bought a Ticket On The Jesus Train ( 1 2 3 )

No. I am also agnostic and believe that if there is a God, she, he, or it is unknowable.

No, but it sure would make it easier for when a thread comes up about something that could have anything to do with God...check the list...if the person comes up on the list, you know that there is no point in arguing with them.

This serves a purpose. and does not assume that people that think the Bible is true are entirely whacked out of their mind.

After growing up Catholic and visiting Israel - I would say defintely not - it is fiction- unlike many of the previous cultures and religions before it.- Jesus was a remarkable individual with a great message but God? What he said and talked about was not new at the time - he did it better - that is why he made his mark.
How would you react to a person today who made the same declarations?

Is this another attack on Biden and his use of "literally"?

There's a lot more in the Bible referencing the word of God than the four Gospels. BTW, we Christians believe Jesus walked the talk. You know, the conquering death thingy.

No. I wonder if you believe that what is written in the Bible is the literal word of God. In this sense, "literal" means "actual" or "real"...you know, the only definition of the word "literal"

I don't know what this Christian is who doesn't believe the Bible is the word of God. That sounds to me like the guy who went to a small group fellowship where the leader brought his boyfriend. I will concede, I don't know which kinds of groups can claim a monopoly on the word 'Christian' and I'll go further to say I know that I don't know Jesus in any fashion like he ought to be known.
Yes, I believe the Bible is the word of God and for all of those who don't like it you are cordially invited to
Now, let me explain, where else except the Bible can you learn about Jesus and the significance of his life, death and...resurrection? Where else can you learn that? Where else can you learn about our hope of salvation in Christ, other than the Bible? Where can you find out about the church, what it is and what it should do, except the Bible?
I DO NOT understand a lot about the revelation of God in the Old Testament. Certainly, the new is tied into the old and Jesus himself referenced it and took authority from it. Point being, I don't understand a lot about the way God reveals himself in the Old Testament, but I'm pretty sure it's a lack of understanding on my part, that somehow it's consistent with the new.
Alright now, who wants to fight!

What are your thoughts re: the "books" that were specifically excluded from the Bible? Why?

I believe that the Bible is literally authored by God, put to paper (or its equivalent) by those he directed to do so.
I do not believe that everything in the Bible is literal.

In some things I am on the other end of the spectrum but I am voting for Obama... I don't trust McCain. Strangely enough I could trust Palin but she is not running for president. OBAMA 08!
