Weird (re: West Wing Season 7 & Real '08 Election)

Very interesting that the 2008 election has a good amount similarities with the final election in The West Wing.

Young, up-and-coming, minority politician surprises everyone and beats out the favorite for the Democratic nomination. Then selects a Washington veteran as his running mate.

Older veteran who has different views on some issues than his Party's base takes the Republican nomination.

I'm sure there are other similarities, I just haven't watched the Season 7 DVD's in a long time - generally stick to Seasons 1-4. Kinda crazy, considering Season 7 began airing in September of 2005.

As you know, we've been digging into the mystery of why McCain had an image of Walter Reed Middle School in the background during the first few minutes of his convention speech last night.

A bunch of you have speculated that the intention was actually to use Walter Reed Medical Center but that someone goofed and pulled the school image instead. The school is right now being deluged by media requests, we're told.

Meanwhile, here's another fun wrinkle: It turns out that the building behind McCain was also used as the backdrop for Matt Santos' announcement of his presidential candidacy on The West Wing.
