Heart not happy with Palin and GOP
Quote:
|
"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

Fisher said he strongly endorsed the Democratic ticket, and would donate a portion of royalties he receives from the Republicans' airing of "Barracuda" to the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. "With my contribution to Obama's campaign, the Republicans are now supporting Obama," he said.

Look at all the symbolism if the GOP campaign.
McCains similar speech to Bushes acceptance, the middle school picture on the picture.
Introducing Palin as a reformer and her thirst for earmarks that McCain makes famous by picking her. Then says he will make earmarkers famous in his acceptance speech.
Grahm saying we were moving to victory in front of a picture of graves.
And now this.
People its a sign from GOD!

They should take Pete Townshend's tack. The last stop of the Bush 2000 campaign was a rally at 2am Election Day in Arkansas. They started playing "Don't Stop (Thinkin About Tomorrow) " by Fleetwood Mac and then you heard a needle scratch and "Won't Get Fooled Again" started.
THE 2000 CAMPAIGN: THE TEXAS GOVERNOR; Bush's Finishing Day Includes Tennessee and Arkansas - New York Times
They asked Pete about it a day later (he posted it in his blog - which I can't find now) his response: I don't care who plays my music as long as it get played.

Despite the Wilson sisters’ objections, one of the song’s co-writers said he was “thrilled” that the song was used.
In an e-mail to Reuters, the band’s former guitarist, Roger Fisher, said it was a win-win situation. Heart gets publicity and royalties, while the Republicans benefit from “the ingenious placement of a kick-ass song,” Fisher said.
