Also.....This piece really puts this whole election into perspective.
Obama really is a transcendental leader who has remarkably found a way to rise above the deep divisiveness that dominates today's dialogue. I'm still young so I've yet to experience different generations of statesmen, but Obama's temperament sets him apart from a lot of the politicians I've read about and seen on TV. I'm so impressed by the guy's temperament, and whether you agree with his ideology or not I think that this type of leader is the best America can ask for right now.
I also like how this piece distinguished McCain's experience on foreign policy to Obama's judgement. I read an excellent book called "Diplomacy" by Henry Kissinger which offers insight in how world leaders have reacted internationaly events that dominated their time and how they subsequently shaped international relations into what they are today. Reading this article reminded me of this book. Anyways, it's really is a good book that portrays how important a leader's temperment is when it comes to foreign policy. McCain's erratic, unpredictable behavior really does trump the experience he brings to the table. Besides experience doesn't prepare you for the uncertainty of the future.
To put it into perspective, which candidate would you rather have in office if the Cuban Missile Crisis were to occur again. The gunslingin maverick or the cool customer. I think the way JFK handled that crisis really emphasizes the importance of temperament and judgement in the face of international crisis.
