President Barrack Obama solemly pays respects to fallen heros home from Afghanistan.
Obama Visits Dover Air Force Base To Honor Fallen Soldiers
Quote:

The dramatic image of a president on the tarmac was a portrait not witnessed in years. Former President George W. Bush spent lots of time with grieving military families but never went to Dover to meet the remains coming off the cargo plane.

I heard this on the news this AM. Hopefully this is not something he'll have to do much longer...

I think it was really good for Obama to go to Dover. I'm sure the families appreciated it, and I think it's useful for Obama to see the real cost of war before he sends more troops to Afghanistan.
I do wish that Presidents would not use military salutes. When Eisenhower became President, on Inaugural Day, he put his hand over his heart instead of saluting. This guy was a general, the friggin Supreme Allied Commander in WW2. But he believed that as a civilian President, the military salute was not appropriate.

That salute along with his visit that only one family wanted on TV made for a great photo shoot.

Again I agree with you. What a break through, I agree that serviceman on the right side of the screen is a great American. As far as that person on the left, well... no comment.

Quite a change in approach by the White House, given that W not only didn't want to see the dead for himself, he didn't want the rest of the us to see 'em either.

Can we all agree we'd prefer no more dead soldiers come back from Afghanistan?

It is the famlies who decide whether or not pictures are allowed. George Bush met with the famlies in private. A better approach than creating a photo op.

Quite the cynic aren't you? The man and his wife flew to Dover in the middle of the night so they could see for themselves what was has wrought. He said that the experience will influence his future decisions. Yes it made for a good photo op but a President can't go to the can without cameras recording his every move.
Also, it was good that Bush met with some families of the dead from the war he created on a lie but the refusal to allow photos of the caskets was a typically control move to hide the reality of the war from the US public. Obama does no such thing.

Did Fox News tell you this?
You do know that the family's permission is still required, right? (No, Fox News probably didn't tell you that.)

Obama couldn't care less about the fallen troops or their families. He's strictly in it for himself. Nothing but a self-serving photo-op, and the useful idiots lap it up.

This is a bold faced lie. This is utterly wrong, you are politicizing an event that W thought was better handled privately. W met with most families privately, and would grieve with the families without photo ops.
Conversely, Obama's own people have said that they hoped this photo op would give them more time to make a decision on Afghanistan.

The images and the sentiment of the president’s five-hour trip to Delaware were intended by the White House to convey to the nation that Mr. Obama was not making his Afghanistan decision lightly or in haste.

He is PRESIDENT! if he says 'no cameras', you really think the soldiers on that base would let the press in anyway? It is sad to think our dead (at least the one soldier whose family allowed photos) are being used this way.
