What about these people? I'm pretty sure they have just as many health issues.

No they would get carbon credits to offset their health issues since they eat little and likely eat no evil carbon emitting meat.

if the health issues and the subsequent economic impact associated with anorexia is comparable in size and scope with the health issues and subsequent economic impact associated with obesity, I have no problem with it.
my guess is that it's not, though. I see a ton of obese people walking around every day... not too many anorexics..

No ****ing way. You ever try feeding your family without soda? Can't be done. Thankfully there are grass roots organizations like the Americans Against Food Taxes fighting back. Obviously a band of concerned citizens and not just a front group for the beverage industry.

Where does it end? Tax the fatties first, then tax the smokers, then the drinkers, then those that eat unhealthy, then those that don't exercise, then those that don't exercise enough, then those that can't run a 5K in 20 minutes, then those that don't get at least 6 hours of sleep each night, then those that are stressed out, then those with a family history of heart disease or cancer?
For the record, waist to hip ratio is a much better indicator of health then BMI. The BMI is widely accepted because height and weight are standard measurements in a doctors office and waist to hip ratio is not.

What do you mean "then"? They have been targeting smokers for years. Cant pass a new tax? Demonize the smokers and put it on the cigs, **** them. Its high time some of the other unhealthy *******s get their fair share.

Smokers should get a credit on their income tax for the amount they pay in taxes. They pay $5.00+ for a product that the manufacturers produce for less than 25 cents, of course there is the stupidity factor involved.

If we based a tax on stupidity, then they need to start taxing Jesus too.

I think everyone should be taxed except me.

I say tax at 1% of gross income for every percentage point above 15% BF.
That way we can stick it to the fat and rich at the same time.

Yep. The Sin Police will tax everything that you do that they think is wrong.
Of course, they will live for 90+ years and not enjoy one damn minute of it.

We should also tax people 1% of gross income for every percentage point that their IQ is below 90. Stupid people should get off their butts and read some books so they can contribute to the excellence of all of mankind.

Eventually it will happen, regardless who is paying for health care.
It would have happened already, except for (gasp!!!! ) government regulation -- if the private health insurers could get away with it, they would slap massive penalty clauses on for high BMI individuals (or go the other way, boost basic rates sky-high and give big discounts for 'healthy behavior' -- no smoking, no drinking, low BMI).
Bottom line, if you're a chunker, eventually you're going to start paying for it (and not just in the buffet line).

We are talking about taxes though. Not what a private company chooses to charge for their services.
That said, you are right. Eventually the Gov. is going to find a way to take money from people based on what they eat.
Now, if we could get the airlines to charge by the pound!
