Actually I renamed it before it got merged.
NJ really surprised me - I figured any state that would vote for Frank Lautenberg's tired old ass and elect Corzine twice would just go ahead and reelect him.

Are you going to merge next weeks "What is on hate radio this week?" into last weeks "What is on hate radio this week" thread?
Oh, and rename it too.

NJ elected Corzine when Bush2 was in The White House. Never underestimate the difficulty in firing up the base of either party after they have worked hard the year before to get their candidate into The White House

Casinos are going to pass here.
Livestock care mandates are going to pass.
Military veteran compensation is going to pass.

Where will the casinos be? Do local counties have to approve them? This is going to kill the WV border casinos and hurt Detroit.

Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo and Cincinnati. And no, its a constitutional amendment.
Don't worry, if they build casinos here like the ones in Indiana, they will totally suck. Argosy/Hollywood is popular with the blue hairs and the only casino worth visiting (IMO) is one in Detroit, not anywhere here.
In other news...Dennis Archer and Dan Gilbert stand to benefit a crapton from this one.

Interestingly these two have been the subject of negative ads...including an ad that talks about how Dan Gilbert was arrested for running an illegal gambling ring...turns out he got busted when he was a frosh at MSU.

For 2010, beyond the Congressional races, there are 37 governorships up (19 Dem, 18 GOP).
Term-limited or retiring Democrats - KS, ME, MI, NM, OK, OR, PA, TN, WI (WY still uncertain due to overturn of legislative term limits by WY Supreme Court)
Democrats seeking re-election - AR, CO, IL, IA, MD, MA, NH, NY, OH
Term-limited or retiring Republicans - AL, CA, FL, GA, HI, MN, RI, SC, SD, VT
Republicans seeking re-election - AK, AZ, CT, ID, NE, NV, TX, UT (special election due to Jon Huntsman becoming ambassador to China)
KY, MS, and LA have their elections in 2011.
Eleven states (DE, IN, MO, MT, NH, NC, ND, UT, VT, WA, WV) will have elections in 2012 (NH and VT have gubernatorial elections every 2 years).

I wouldn't consider IL a "re-election" state. Pat Quinn is the incumbent but as we all know he wasn't elected governor.
I'm sure you've seen campaign commercials start on TV in IL as well.

NY 23 (a strong GOP district) is apparently going to the Dems. Outside Conservative orgs, particuarly Club for Growth, spent a ton there and recently ran off the moderate in the race. They even brought Palin in. Oops!
There's still time for it to swing but what the message is here is that the Beck/Limbaugh forces pushed moderate Republicans away. This is a bigger loss for the GOP than the wins in NJ and VA.

Haven't seen any yet, but can't believe that Jim Ryan (after losing to Blago in 2002) is getting back in to run in 2010. At least the GOP won't have to deal with the disaster that was Judy Baar Topinka (she's running for Comptroller, where I don't think her ties to George Ryan are going to help her).

What kind of Dem are we talking about on the political spectrum? Are we talking about one who leans more towards the far-left or one who is more fiscally conservative and is closer to a Blue Dog?

According to Hoyle's ranking of poker hands, a pair of governors beats a representative.

Jim Ryan running again is . As for Topinka, she did run against Blago and it is obvious that the voters made a huge mistake picking Blago over her so who knows, maybe she'll get some goodwill from that.
It's still amazing Blago got elected twice. Of course the second time he was running he was under investigation by the FBI and still won.
I've already seen commercials for Pat Quinn, Dan Hynes and Andy McKenna.

according to Hoyle's ranking of blackjack hands, a Dem upset in a Congressional race equates to a 21 (particularly) considering the emphasis the hardcore cons forces put on it) beats a 17 of governor candidates, one in a traditional GOP state and another in a gubenatorial swing state.

The new york congressional race was a special election. for a one-year term.
Versus two governor races of big states.
Obviously the latter was and is a much bigger deal.
