House minority leader doesn't know Constitution from Declaration of Independence!

John Boehner stands on the steps of the Capitol, ranting about public health option, waves his pocket copy of the Constitution, and then quotes from it -- only he's quoting the Declaration of Independence!

Not an innocent mistake during floor debate, either; prepared remarks for a staged rally!

I saw some of the clips from the rally. One of the other righties f***ed up the Pledge of Allegiance - after yelling the "under God" part. Then the flag fell over when another moron was talking - I think it was the ghost of Thomas Jefferson, telling them to quit s***ting on his country.

Hey, everybody knows what the Declaration of the Constitution said when Jeebus brought the tablets down from Mount Olympus.

Thomas Jefferson being unhappy with the right wing? Do you really want to go there? So now LIBS are trying to make us believe Thomas Jefferson would be more in touch with the Left than the Right?

Well he certainly wasn't a republican. At least, not by today's standards. Separation of church and state, a strictly limited federal government, care for the environment, a distrust of bankers and industrialists - these are not republican ideas. However, he was against mixed-race marriage, so that suits the republican mindset.

Rush Limpballs did the same thing not long ago. They're much more interested in the conclusion than the source. It's results oriented reasoning from the get go.

Jefferson said that our common law legal system had nothing to do with Christianity, called the efforts to show otherwise fraudulent, was the one who coined the phrase a "wall of separation between church and state", and believed that much of the Bible, including much of the Gospels themselves, were inauthentic and needed to be discarded entirely.

Now tell me with whom he'd be most comfortable . . . .

Ahh WH...eternally one sided.

Guess some people don't want to talk about the word 'health' not even being in the constitution yet some Senators claim it is.

Hint - It's a Dem.

The soon people figure out both sides are ****ed the better off you will be.

I don't know which party this falls in line with. One party says it will make the government bigger and then does it. The other says is it will make the governement smaller and then makes it bigger. You tell me which one we should believe.

Neither party has distinguished itself from the other on that front in a while (in practice, not rhetoric). If that's the only issue you had with the post I take it you agree with his conclusion then huh?

What party held power from 2000-2008? You think the repubs are the party of "limited government?"

Sorry Libs, you can't run around the entire site screaming how Republicans are for no regulations and then when it does not suit this argument you throw up a spending sheet. Intellectual dishonesty as usual from the Left.

All that remark shows is that whoever on Boehner's staff who put that speech in his hand was lazy.

I do chuckle at the folks who piously defer to the founding fathers crap.

An era when people owned people to solve labor issues, only white men could vote and inherit property, it took weeks to sail to and from Europe and the agriculture was the driving economic engine. So applicable today.

Some truths are eternal.

Too bad for you that you don't recognize that.

Like the Golden Rule? Control the gold and control the rule?

Please don't preach limited government after you voted for an administration that instituted more spying on US citizen within US borders and gave birth to Homeland Security.

Its just hypocritical.

Thomas Jefferson was a politician. In many respects, in the earliest years of the Republic, he was indeed one of the leading spokesmen for a limited federal government. Then he was elected president and, while holding the office, was presented with the opportunity for the Louisiana Purchase. It was pointed out by those on what had been his side of the issue that there was no authority in the Constitution to do any such thing. It was going to take too long to amend the Constitution, so Jefferson decided that he'd make the necessary philisophical shift, abandoned a strict reading of the Constitution of 1787, and thereby laid the essential foundation for what would become one of the largest nations and largest governments in history. He made the purchase. So much for a limited federal government. The party of which he was a member, the Democratic-Republicans, eventually became today's Democratic Party.

Historically yours,
