Since Bush and 9/11 the Republican Party is the party of fear
From the invasions to the Patriot Act to torture and guns the Republicans have placed fear in the average White American who now form the majority of their party. Whenever they oppose something they encourage this fear to the point where their backers threaten physical violence as is being done now in the opposition of health reform.
Rather than encourage sane debate their organizers drum up mob violence and shouting and physical threats. Organizers want to make it seem like the grassroots movements against the View Nam War but these protests are well organized and funded and people want blood not peace.

Ummm OK...
The coasts will be inundated. Massive flooding. On the other hand, horrific drought. Starvation. Pestilence. Rampant war.
Your argument might have more sway if the Left wasn't positing an impending Book of Revelations' style scenario if we don't immediately drop fossil fuels....

We have seen the assassinations of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh, last November’s prelude to the French civil war, the Danish cartoon case. This is just the beginning of the beginning. I do not consider myself a pessimist, merely a realist. It is quite clear who is going to lose – and whose fault that will be. - Paul Belien 022206

Oh boy. The idiots have taken another soul, or are you lowering yourself to danb-level in sympathy for his banning?
They do it because ignorant people are easily scared. The Health Care bill in the House is characterized as 'ending freedom as we know it'. "It will ruin our economy" The whole thing is laughable until you realize how dire the consequences will be without the bill.
